What is the best way to monitor a brand online?
I’ve recently started thinking about how much information about our company is scattered across the internet. We obviously monitor our own social media accounts and website traffic, but that doesn’t really tell us what people are saying about the brand elsewhere. A customer might mention us in a forum, a review site or a social post without ever contacting us directly. I’m curious how other marketing teams handle this. Do you manually search for brand mentions, or is there a more organised way to track conversations, reviews and references across different websites?

We had the same problem because manual searches quickly became impossible to maintain. At first, someone on our team would periodically search the company name and a few product names, but the results were inconsistent and we inevitably missed things. We eventually started looking at brand monitoring as an ongoing process rather than an occasional Google search. The useful part is being able to track mentions across different sources and identify changes in the way people talk about the company. I’d also recommend setting up searches for common spelling variations and important product names, because otherwise you can miss surprisingly relevant conversations. It doesn’t replace actually reading the mentions, but it makes finding them much easier.
